Infrastructure for geodata

An infrastructure for geodata - also referes to spatial data infrastrcuture (SDI) - is a network of information resources accessible via the Internet.  The information is to be collected and stored by local, regional and national authorities as well as other players that generate geodata - and make it available.

The infrastructure for geodata can be described as a "cloud" of data and services that can be accessed via the Internet.

The infrastructure for geodata contains:

  • geodata together with regulations, services for searching, finding and using the information
  • systems for cooperation between different parts

Geodata is the term used for all digital information that describes phenomena and their geographical location, for example map data and register information about buildings, lakes, roads, vegetation and population statistics.
